DESCRIPTION:The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission will be holding a Groundbreaking Ceremony celebrating the expansion of Saluda Shoals Park on Thursday\, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. New development at Saluda Shoals Park will include a 60-acre soccer and tennis complex and an expansion of the park's existing outdoor recreational area by another 60-acres. The event will be held on the Park property located at 6107 St. Andrews Rd. and is open to the public. The new area initially will include a soccer complex with six fields\, a pavilion with restrooms and concessions\, tennis facilities including six clay courts and four hard surface courts\, a riverfront high adventure course and zip line and a new canoe\, kayak and tube take-out. Plans are to add two additional soccer fields in the future. A second park entrance with connecting roadway to the riverfront will complete the project. Construction will begin immediately and the new facilities are expected to open in spring of 2015.
